Day 18: Buccaneers Backpackers Lodge & Lungile Lodge Backpackers & the Baz Bus
September 22nd, 2012
I never thought we would be saying this in South Africa but Buccaneers Backpackers Lodge wore us out!
The weather wasn’t so great today and the excursions that Sal and Sean provided us with throughout the week were absolutely incredible we figured taking a breather on a rainy day wouldn’t be so bad!
Family channel and food all day long, worked for us! Around 6pm we headed off to Port Elizabeth to stay at Lungile Lodge Backpackers for the night. It was a great Baz Bus night tonight!
We linked up with our friends from Israel and met a couple new friends along the way – Luciano from Brazil and Stefano from Italy! We’re going to miss our Baz Bus trips, meeting new friends, hanging out with the sweet ass drivers and stopping at the craziest convenience stores along the way (this is where Alicia and I have been stocking up on chocolate bars and ice cream bars that we don’t have in Canada – I don’t think losing any weight on this trip has been an option for us haha).
This might sound silly but I really wanted to mention it, the Baz Bus staff/drivers have been the biggest help for Alicia and I. Before we left for Africa, it’s normal to hear “be safe, don’t get mugged” and so on. However, the way that the drivers support you at every stop is amazing. Even something as little as going to the ATM, each and every driver we have had will come out and stand next to you just to ensure you are safe. It is the sweetest thing and might be something not everyone recognizes but to have the Baz Bus drivers go out of their way for our safety was pretty amazing! You don’t get that with every shuttle service you take do you?
Our stay at Lungile Lodge Backpackers was a short but sweet one. 12am drop off and 6:45am pick up. Regardless of the amount of time we spent there, it was a great hostel (well, as always it was more like a hotel).
We had our own room and washroom overlooking beautiful Port Elizabeth and the ocean. I’ll add a photo so you can see for yourself how sweet this hostel was – like a little log cabin, my favorite! It was very comforting to have a room at Lungile Lodge Backpackers for the night – our own key, safe and locks on every door 🙂 – helped us get the 5 hours of rest we needed for Jeffrey’s Bay ;).
