Though travel always seems so glamorous via social media and advertisements, you should never forget that no matter where in the world you are, not everything is always going to be perfect.

This is the ugly side to travel.

Ugly Side to Travel

I’m not going to lie, I love my life now more than I ever have, but there are also many reasons why I would like to be at home right now.

  • Not having a steady job is probably the hardest thing on me right now. I wake up every morning unsure as to how and when I will get more money.
  • Not having my family. I might be strong on the outside, but there have been times where I’ve been desperately lonely and just wanted my puppy and my momma by my side.
  • Not having a home. I am staying with my boyfriend at the moment in Germany and he’s going to hate me for writing this, but no matter what, living off of my boyfriend at his place, it is not my home. He would love for me to call it my home. Until I find a place where I move my own furniture in, I pay for the rent with my own money and I am settled, then that’s when I will call it home.
  • Not having a fixed schedule. Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes I just need order in my life. The thing about travel is that no matter how hard you try to create a schedule, something will go wrong. Being home with a constant schedule allows you to avoid error in your life.
  • Not being able to plan a real birthday party. This is going to sound like another silly one but for the passed two years I haven’t made prior plans for my birthday. This year I will be traveling on my birthday from 3:00 in the morning until 9:00 at night. I’m not going to tell you where *secret*, but as you can tell.. it’s a pretty long damn flight.

Those are probably my biggest monthly concerns, these are things that I think about often and that sometimes make me sad. There’s also many other things that are frustrating about travel, like changing currency, not having enough money, not speaking the language, having shitty roommates in your hostel dorm, losing your luggage, the list goes on.

So next time you’re creeping some well-known travel blogger saying ‘I wish their life was mine,‘ just remember that they go through rough days too and no matter where in the world you are, there are always going to be rough patches.

That’s life, get on with it and try to enjoy it to your fullest! This is the ugly side to travel.
