For those of you who have already been meandering through all my Thessaloniki Instagram photos, you should know by now that Greece is a very colourful place from my perspective. What a better way to embrace this than heading to the Colors Ladadika Hotel in Thessaloniki?!

Thessaloniki

I have never been to Greece before and I was well aware of the economic struggle that has been going on for a few years. With this being said, I was prepared for really quite anything. To my pleasant surprise, the Colors Ladadika is situated in one of the most beautiful streets within Thessaloniki – a quaint, old and romantic restaurant road lined with lively green flora and cobbled stoned streets.

Staff

I met a few staff during my two night stay at the Colors Ladadika and was pleased with all of them. They were sweet, kind and well accommodating. Now that I’ve been on the road for quite a while I know what I like and what I need. Upon check-in, I always ask for the following: a map of the city, the WIFI password, where I can get my breakfast in the morning and what sights they recommend I go see. Of course, I got this all almost without asking for it at the Colors Ladadika. They had created their own map of the Ladadika area along with restaurants (and special Colors discounts), their WIFI password and login were conveniently located on the folder that they room key was in and breakfast was not just delicious but was at various restaurants around the area.

Room

I can’t tell you how much this room defined my personality. I walked in and the room was brightly lit and filled with colours, to no surprise here. However, the colours weren’t so bright that they were distracting but added a simple flare to the room. The walls were white and the pop of colour came from the bright yellow headboard which bolded screamed “WOW” in a neon blue font.

I feel the need to compare the bed and pillows here at the Colors Ladadika to that of a high class, luxury hotel in Luxembourg. Just one week before staying at the Colors Ladadika I was in Luxembourg on a birthday weekend getaway with my boyfriend. We had paid big bucks to stay in a fancy room and expected at the very least a comfortable sleeping space. The beds were rock solid (not a nice firm bed, a rock solid bed), and the pillows were smaller than my head. Now Colors Ladadika, on the other had in a unique and affordable accommodation in the centre of Thessaloniki, with the softest pillows and the perfect mattress (firm, yet soft).

Breakfast

The breakfast at the Colors Ladadika is like nothing I’ve experienced before but I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is affiliated with a variety of different bakeries and restaurants throughout Thessaloniki, two of which are offering scrumptious breakfasts for the Colors Hotel guests. I really loved this style of offering breakfast because not only does it provide less work for the employees at the reception, but it’s a way to get visitors out and exploring different cuisine. Here were the two places I went for breakfast.

1. Albeta*:  Colors Ladadika actually has their own personalized menu at these restaurants for Colors guests to choose from. Albeta* was probably my favourite bakery across Thessaloniki for their incredible breakfast options and pastries and has also sparked my creativity for designing my own house in the future. I had Greek yogurt with honey and plums, a turkey sandwich on a freshly toasted sesame bun, a seed and cranberry bar along with green tea and freshly squeezed orange juice (the best juice I’ve ever had). I ate absolutely everything in sight and LOVED every minute of it.

2. Tapas Bar: The next morning I stumbled in half asleep to the Tapas Bar before catching my train ride to Athens. Initially I thought I was walking into the wrong place since I sure wasn’t ready for any savory tapas food and beer. To my surprise they also had a customized tapas menu for Colors guests which allowed you to choose 3 options on their breakfast tapas menu. Scrambled eggs with veggies, Greek yogurts with walnuts and honey along with a delicious and fresh plate of local fruits. One word: DELICIOUS.

I thoroughly enjoyed both of the breakfast options and even if you aren’t staying a the Colors Ladadika, I would recommend checking them out. Albeta is a more cafe like, trendy bakery where the Tapas Bar is more of a laid back and bar type layout – you choose which one is for you!

Overall Rating

Before arriving in Greece I was told that Thessaloniki was quite an industrial city and is nothing compared to smaller villages and towns on the little Greek islands. In all fairness, they are right in some sense. Though there aren’t many small cute blue and white Greek buildings lining the streets of Thessaloniki, it deserves much more credit than ‘just an industrial city.’

Colors Ladadika Hotel

Thessaloniki has history, remarkable architecture and is lined by a beautiful port where the White Tower is situated. I came in with low expectations but am leaving Thessaloniki with confidence that I will suggest all my friends visit if they have a layover or flight arrival in Thessaloniki. The train from Athens is only a 5 hour journey which is full of beautiful landscape.

I took a peak into a few of the hotels throughout Thessaloniki in order to compare the Colors Ladadika to some of the others. I found they were either extremely pricey and luxurious or extremely run down and cheap. I enjoy blogging about unique and affordable accommodations and found the Colors Ladadika to be a PERFECT mix of both. It is affordable, yet luxurious and comes with a unique style that you won’t find anywhere else! I give the Colors Hotel a 4.5/5 and would LOVE to come back again!
