Last weekend it was a holiday in Germany [surprise, surprise] so myself, Paul and his friend headed south to Chalon sur Savone, France for a 4 day weekend camping experience in the bushes along the riverside.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I knew what camping was like in Canada, and I loved it. I wasn’t pleasantly surprised or disappointed, it was just much different from what I had anticipated what ‘camping in France’ would be like. The ‘woods’ were more like ‘bushes’ and my personal favorite was the lack of privacy when shitting on the ground… haha.

Camping in France

The start of our journey was rather slow, from one city to another we faced bumper to bumper traffic through Germany, into Switzerland and onward to France. What I thought was going to be a 3 hour drive [thanks to the wisdom of my man] turned out to be about 8 hours in the car with no air conditioning. Windows down and wind in my hair is fine by me, and thankfully I had the free time to write a few blog postings.

Once we arrived we set up camp, twice. The boys were there for fishing and fishing alone, I was simply just tagging along because I like exploring the wilderness. We almost set up camp three times when they decided we weren’t catching any big fish at the second spot, but luckily we stayed put until morning. They were looking for massive cat-fish, though I am secretly happy that I didn’t have to witness any gigantic murder or harm to these fish that were nearly my size.

Nearing the end of the trip the Volkswagen bus we had taken on this journey ended up with a broken engine and now Paul and I are currently on one of 4-6 train rides home to Freiburg, Germany. This leg of the journey will take us a good full day, but I have lots of catch up blogging to do and I enjoy train rides much more than cars! 🙂

Overall, I don’t think I would choose this destination again, but I do love me some good relaxation by the water, reading books and sleeping under the stars.

Here’s a little clip about our weekend adventure, enjoy!
