I never anticipated to be writing about luxury travel on my blog but lately some experiences have got me thinking. There are those times in the midst of travel where you just wish you had the world at your feet, where you wish you could wash your clothes somewhere other than the co-ed washroom, where you could stretch your legs out in the covers under the bed and sleep in without other backpackers waking you up, I could keep going…
The thing is, sometimes you just need a break from traveling. I may seem like a strong and confident individual who doesn’t mind getting dirty or living off of peanut butter and crackers, and don’t get me wrong, I am… but sometimes I just need to kick back and splurge.
So here’s how I’ve figured out how to travel for less while embracing luxury experiences.
Can’t a girl live for a princess once in a while? Well… there is a way to do this, besides being one lucky travel blogger and having it all expensed. My secret weapon – www.hotwire.com.
I believe other sites like hotels.com and priceline.com also do the same thing. They offer you secret hotels. Without providing the name or any description of the room, they will provide you a region and a price. You could be paying something like $100 for a hotel room in the presidential suite of the nicest hotel in the city using these ‘secret’ sites. Many hotels aren’t always fully booked every night and rather than wasting a perfectly open space, they will allow sites like Hotwire to put them online without using their name and discount them to a small fraction of the original price.
Let me just say, whoever came up with this idea was a genius. Sharing is caring.
So the next time you’re ready for a night of luxury without the luxury budget, try checking out one of these sites. Be a little adventurous and buy a ‘secret’ room in an ‘unknown’ hotel. The magic is in the mystery!
