Well, the craft show wasn’t as successful as anticipated. We didn’t sell one diaper cake, we didn’t end up baking the cupcakes BUT I did spend a couple hours the night before making yummy candy kabobs that were a hit seller – haha. Although I spent hours on end making all these baby creations, the experience of just working a craft show in Iqaluit, Nunavut with my new friend Melody was well worth it. Not to mention, the cakes will be donated to the hospital or women’s shelter upon my departure. I actually ended up making profit after the cost of $25 to enter into the craft show and the $6 it cost to take the cab to the Francophone Centre… until I purchased two beautiful paintings that were in support of the Iqaluit Humane Society. I feel like I’m on 2 Broke Girls while I’m living up here. I started with $0 after the god awful prices of the return flight to Nunavut. Somehow, I have managed to end up at about negative $500.
For those of you who have any interest in coming up here for work at some point… don’t panic, I am making income.. but with this small community feel comes patience. Lots and lots and lots of ………waiting……. constant waiting………….
I have a few paychecks that I can’t deposit (no they don’t have TD Canada Trust up here) and have been waiting for the approval of my direct deposit. I am officially on the direct deposit payroll now so I am hoping that my 2 Broke Girls experience will soon come to an end.
Katie Inukshuk (my sisters other half) arrived in Iqaluit from Qikiqtarjuak this Thursday for some Christmas celebrations. Yesterday was the Iqaluit Santa Claus Parade, short but sweet! North Mart had a float in the parade and my manager’s family was the entertainment on the float. Avery and Jacob (his two sons – the most adorable boys in the world) were elves and Jack (my manager) was dressed as a North Mart employee/massive moose.
I don’t think I’ve missed a Santa Claus Parade in my life and I wasn’t about to stop now. Baby Brody’s very first Santa Claus Parade!
Last night was the North Mart Christmas party and for me, a really good celebration of closure. My adventure here in Iqaluit is quickly and unfortunately coming to an end but I am excited to start new experiences and new adventures in Chonburi, Thailand -departing January 2nd.
These are my GM girls at North Mart, my beautiful Inuit ladies!
I have 12 more official days in Iqaluit, my dad’s coming for a visit this Wednesday and we’ll be taking part in more Arctic experiences before we depart for Toronto, Ontario on December 21st.
Until next time!
